Week 9- Trekking at Rimba

Week 9 – trekking at Rimba

The trip developed the important of teamwork among the BEACA students. The trekking was adventurous, required endurance, commitment and responsibility from all the BEACA students.
The trip was held on Friday, 9th of October. My post at that week was as a treasurer, my responsibility was to collect money from the BEACA student to make payment for transportation and refreshment. The transport organizer was Aziman, who succeeded in obtaining a van for us. So we all gathered at the UBD then when everyone arrived we depart from UBD.

The soil was quite muddy maybe because of the rain the day before. It was very difficult to walk. The surface of the forest was slippy, we have to go through a steep area, we have to walk through a bushes of fern which is very difficult to walk through, the stalks and the leaves of the fern is very sharp. It can cut our skin.

During the trip, we get a chance to know some vegetations, some of it was sumboi-sumboi, the Baku plant, Tongkat Ali which we can recognized by its branches of leaves which look like an umbrella, and the Simpur plant which is known as the Brunei national flower.

· Wear a shoes with studs which can prevent us from slipping

· Bring enough water

Week 8 – trekking at Lucky Garden, Sungai Tilong

Week 8 – trekking at Lucky Garden, Sungai Tilong

The trekking was held at the forest in Lucky Garden, Simpang 542, Jalan Muara. It was our first trekking. Before the trekking, each of us have to take a post, then all of us have to be responsible on the post that we picked. My post for that week was as a first aider, I know a few things on first aid, I once joined a short course at the nursing college during my time at Maktab Duli. So I know a few things about CPR, I know how to deal when someone get burn or when someone broke their bone which I pray that any of us wont get that such thing.

On that day, we met up at the UBD parking lot before 6.00am and leave by 6.05am. We arrived at Lucky Garden before 6.30am. We met up with Dr. Irene and we were ready to get into the forest. Before we get into the forest, we were divided into three group where each group lead by a leader and a sweeper.

The soil on that day was very muddy, during the trekking we discovered a lot of things. There were so many abandoned area of land where it is believed that the land was used to be a farm where shifting cultivation and slash and burn were applied on the land. Also at the abandoned farm, I saw a stick with leave look like a human structure, to me its look like a wind vane then Dr. Irene told us that were actually used by the farmer to scare any animals, birds and insects from their farm.

These are the things that we get to see;

The beautiful view of Masjid Kampong Lambak.

The important things that I have learnt:-

· The nature of our environment is very beautiful, we can only get that by adventuring the environment and preserve the environment

· The forest also offer a great view

· Do not bring too much things in your beg or you will get so tired
